Breathing is a reflex action, prone to stress. Prāṇāyāma regulates breathing, makes it conscious and brings internal harmony.
When we are anxious, our breathing becomes shallow and ragged. It is calm when we are at peace. So, how can we our control over breathing.
Conscious breathing ensures psychosomatic equilibrium. It channels motility (prāṇa) through channels called nāḍi, ensuring health and wellness.
Each nostril covers movement of motility in a specific half of the body. So, breathing through both nostrils ensures equilibrium in the body and brain.
Bhramarī-prāṇāyāma is a form of diaphragmatic breathing which opens the septum and energy channels or nādi and strengthens the upper respiratory tract.
Ujjeyi is a form of diaphragmatic breathing where the glottis is closed by constricting the throat to strengthen the thyroid and sympathetic nervous system.
Kapālabhātī prāṇāyāma, in addition to energising the brain, also activates all the energy channels in the abdomen, and the autonomous nervous system.
Bhastrikā is an aerobic prāṇāyāma technique. The yogī forcefully exhales air, activating dead lung space and increasing volumentric efficiency.
